Passing off

Using the work or name of an organisation or individual without consent to promote a competing product or service.

Patent

A grant made by a government that confers upon the creator of an invention the sole right to make, use and sell that invention for a set period of time.

Phonogram copyright

The distinct right applied to an individual sound recording, which will operate separately from rights existing in the underlying musical composition.

Plan S

An initiative launched by cOAlitionS, a group of European research funders and led by Science Europe, with a view to accelerating the transition to open access (https://www.coalition-s.org/).


Post-Print

The final manifestation of a scholarly work, after it has been reviewed and qualified for publication but without the publisher's branding. It is also known as the Author's Accepted Manuscript (AAM). 


Pre-Print

An early manifestation of a scholarly work at the time it has been submitted to a journal before peer review has taken place.


Public communication right

The right to make the work publicly available without the need to distribute physical copies.

Public domain

Where works are not protected by copyright and are freely available for anyone to use, modify, or distribute without obtaining permission
